Job Summary

 

The Owen County Chamber of Commerce is seeking an energetic, relationship-driven professional to serve as its Membership Development Director. As a member of the Chamber's senior leadership team, this individual will be responsible for membership growth, retention, member engagement, and the development and execution of Chamber events that strengthen the local business community.
 

More than a membership sales position, this role serves as a trusted advisor and advocate for Chamber members. The Membership Development Director will cultivate authentic relationships with business owners, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and community leaders by understanding their goals, identifying challenges, connecting them with valuable resources, and helping them leverage Chamber programs to grow and succeed.

The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting businesses, enjoys building long-term relationships, possesses strong business development and mentoring skills, and believes that the Chamber's success is measured by the success of its members. The position will report directly to the CEO of the Chamber and work closely with the CEO and Directors.


 

Responsibilities

Membership Development & Member Success

  • Lead all membership recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives while meeting annual membership growth and retention goals.

  • Build genuine, long-term relationships with Chamber members through regular visits, business check-ins, and ongoing communication that fosters trust and demonstrates the Chamber's commitment to their success.

  • Serve as a business resource and mentor by listening to members' needs, identifying opportunities for growth, connecting them with educational resources, strategic partners, funding opportunities, workforce solutions, and other Chamber programs.

  • Develop individualized strategies that help members maximize the value of their Chamber investment and achieve measurable business success.

  • Regularly evaluate member satisfaction, identify emerging business needs, and recommend new programs, services, and benefits that strengthen the membership experience.

  • Present annual membership goals, budgets, and strategic initiatives to the CEO and Board of Directors.

  • Serve as the driving force behind creating an exceptional member experience that encourages long-term retention and active engagement.

Member Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Design and implement a comprehensive onboarding process that welcomes new members, explains Chamber benefits, and establishes meaningful relationships from day one.

  • Conduct one-on-one consultations and small group meetings to educate members on available resources, networking opportunities, business development programs, and marketing opportunities.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for member-to-member collaboration, partnerships, referrals, and shared problem-solving.

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and inspire Chamber ambassadors, volunteers, and committee leaders who serve as extensions of the Chamber's mission.

  • Foster a culture of service where every interaction reinforces the Chamber's reputation as a trusted business partner.

Membership Systems & Marketing

  • Maintain accurate membership records within the Chamber's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and utilize CRM data to strengthen member engagement and retention efforts.

  • Work collaboratively with Chamber staff to ensure consistent CRM utilization, reporting, and member follow-up.

  • Assist in evaluating membership pricing, benefits, and value propositions to ensure they remain relevant and competitive.

  • Collaborate with the Media Specialist on membership marketing campaigns, advertising initiatives, and promotional strategies.

  • Maintain the Chamber website, Go-Owen platform, and membership marketing materials.

  • Design brochures, flyers, promotional materials, and membership recruitment resources for Chamber and EDC initiatives.

Events & Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with the CEO to develop and manage the annual Chamber calendar of programs and events.

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of Chamber events that provide meaningful networking, educational, and business development opportunities for members.

  • Coordinate event logistics, vendor relationships, sponsorship fulfillment, volunteer management, and event operations from concept through completion.

  • Develop innovative event experiences that exceed participant expectations while strengthening member relationships and community engagement.

  • Support event marketing, sponsor communications, financial management, and post-event evaluation to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Ensure every Chamber event reflects the organization's mission of helping businesses connect, grow, and thrive.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree or relevant professional experience preferred.

 

Skills: Microsoft Words, Excel, PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Canva or similar program. 

 

Work week: 35-40 hours – Salary with Commission opportunity

 

Start date: September/ October 2026
