Owen County awarded $60,000 from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs

It has been eleven years since Owen County created a comprehensive plan, and with the recent award of $60,000 from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, Owen County will once again venture to construct a plan for the future of Owen County!

The 2010 plan identified many key goals that have laid the groundwork for many significant accomplishments. These efforts resulted in new infrastructure, employer sites, county attraction projects, and more. The new Comprehensive Plan will partner with the already completed Quality of Place and Economic Development Strategy Plans. The Comprehensive Plan will help Owen County to manage growth and sustain economic opportunity for all residents, while also being respectful of the history, culture, and traditions of the community. Public input and engagement will be a vital aspect of the plan. To quote Abraham Lincoln this will be a plan “Of the people, by the people, for the people”!

The project will be facilitated by a consulting firm and will begin later this year. “Owen County is growing and is already in motion towards what lies ahead in the next ten years.” stated Marce King, “The people of Owen County know their roots, understand their community and are ready to take on this critical and essential task of planning. Owen County cannot just grow; it must be a concerted effort to develop a successful and flourishing future!”
