The Owen County Chamber of Commerce hosted Governor Holcomb at a "Fireside Chat" on Thursday, June 10th, at the Canyon Inn at McCormick's Creek. The event was made possible by a sponsorship from Duke Energy. The Fireside Chat format allowed for an informal discussion about some of the key issues facing our community and a chance to ask about the Governor's READI program initiative. Under the leadership of Governor Eric J. Holcomb, Indiana has experienced four consecutive record-breaking years for job and investment commitments. The READI Program's goal is to help maintain this momentum and accelerate the state’s economic growth. Various topics of discussion ranged from workforce shortage to housing to broadband expansion. Governor Holcomb explained that the states focus on regionalism is a necessary component for Indiana communities to continue to experience economic growth. "It's about maximizing and leveraging the dollars that we have and looking beyond county lines and city limits. It's looking at where the people are and where they want to be." stated Governor Holcomb. Ms King, Executive Director of the Owen County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development, took the opportunity to share that Owen County's strategy to address economic growth was to capitalize on exactly that concept and focus on attraction and partnerships within the Upland region. Ms King concluded the event expressing to Governor Holcomb how she hoped that as he looked back on his time in Owen County that he would remember a community that strives and cares to give their very best! The Fireside Chat was followed by a luncheon provided by the Canyon Inn. Local business, government, and organization leaders attended the event.
